So once again I am let out at a less than reasonable time from work. I can’t help but think that when everyone is gone for the day that all of the equipment experiences massive failures and can only be prevented by keeping everyone on the boat as late as possible, pretty much around the 4pm time frame.
The division I work for are the hardest working people I know. It’s upsetting to say that when I leave Japan, whoever I work for next won’t live up the standards I am used to. You can look at us, even video tape what he do in a day, and I guarantee that you wouldn’t expect much from us. But when it comes to inspection time, we are hot on our asses getting the job done and not only that, doing exceptionally well at what we do.
What is it that we, Information System Technicians do? As the t-shirt says, we are the voice of the fleet, as far as the Navy goes. The most obvious thing that comes to mind though is computers, which is only part of what we do. There are two sides to my job, ADP and Radio. ADP is the networking side of my job and Radio is the communications side. With ADP, you monitor the network, maintain user accounts, email, workstations, etc. And Radio, you set up voice and data link circuits as well as message traffic. It doesn’t sounds like much, but things get exceedingly out of control at times.
I have less than a month left before I can choose my orders to where I want to work next. I have my options and chances are I will get what I want. No matter what, I will be heading out to sea, but hopefully the tempo is a dramatic change than what I am experiencing as of now. Could it be that Japan just turns LPOs into work zombies that refuse to let their division off for the day in fear that all of the equipment will explode? LPO may also be known as Last Person Off, but that doesn’t have to apply to everyone, especially those who have completed their tasks for the day.
Ha ha, you get out late. :p
