The Deckplates

Well after a week of no internet availability, I finally have an opportunity to get a post up.

So we are out escorting the carrier USS Kitty Hawk with no port visit. The day we got underway it was pointed out that no one had internet and I was feeling like shit and wanted no part in finding out the problem. Apparently this issue wasn’t new due to an anchorage we did a few weeks prior but was resolved when we pulled back in. Since we are going to be out for a few weeks, internet was needed and our mail queue was getting filled on shore side with no destination.

3 days of non-stop tracing of cables and crossing of wires and plugging and unplugging, replacing equipment here and there, removing, replacing and adding configurations, we finally were able to bring back up internet. The biggest thanks is to the civilian who had his contacts that were able to guide us through what was supposed to go where and what not. Believe it or not, it was not our fault for the downtime. It seems a cable decided it wanted to go bad and sure enough switching to another port brought it all back up. Of course we had to go through everything else we changed and put it back to normal in order to test it. And the reward we get? A coupon for $10 off any large Anthony’s Pizza or a free 6″ Sub or Wrap at SmashHit Subs with a purchase of any meal. Time well spent!

Well, we will be circling around for a while taking care of Kitty Hawk until the George Washington gets their shit together. They couldn’t have picked a better time than now to catch on fire.
